Separation Anxiety

Separation Anxiety

The anxiety for separation is a group of compartments that can appear when some dogs (independently of the sex, age or race) are separate from there owner. The cause is the fear or the anxiety.

It can be shown in several ways:

  • Excessive vocalization (he doesn't stop barking).
  • Micturition and / or inadequate defecation.
  • Destructive behavior.
  • Diarrhea, vomits, acral lick dermatitis.

To know if we are in front of a case of anxiety for separation, we will see if some of the three following approaches applies:

  • The behavior is only manifested when the dog cannot access the master.
  • The behavior almost always appears when the dog cannot access to the master.
  • The behavior appears little time after the dog is left alone.

The castration is completely ineffective to solve this problem. The most effective thing is to combine a pharmacological treatment (ansiolíticos) with longer periods of absence of the owner.
