When one picks up an abandoned, lost dog after fulfilling that act of pity should take some elementary cautions, as he doesn't know anything about the dog that wants to adopt, it will be necessary to take the dog for a visit to the veterinarian. A lot of people, mainly if not in good economic situation, refuse to enter in a veterinary clinic. A visit doesn't cost a lot but often, when the doctor sees are economic situation, he can probably charge a smaller sum. 

The veterinarian will give his opinion on the dog, the race that the dog belongs generically, the age, the state of health. The virtues and the defects of their character will revealed with the step of the time, when he is not frighten anymore, when he understands that he has a home, when he discovers that the hands are also good to caress. 

It will be necessary to give the dog a really good bath. Certainly he can take a bath at home in a vat, but it will be better that he takes the first bath in a vet, where they will know how to proceed in the event of abrupt reactions but rather also, they will know how to use the fair dose of disinfectants to kill any acquired parasites during their vagabond life. We should remember, finally that a mature dog can be very accustomed to the free life and that, for that reason, it is not always easy his adaptation to the limitations of an apartment and to the four daily walks, not use to the contention instrument that we call chain. And that if he lives in the garden, it will sometimes feel the call of wild nature and he will probably dug a tunnel or jumped the barrier to feel free again.
