How to administer medication

It is important to know the form of administering the medicines to the dog, since surely the master will give him many in the course of his life: drops, pills or injections. Therefore, it will be good that he learns the method in the appropriate way. 

Let us consider, in first term, the liquid medications; they are mainly those that bring bigger problems, to the newly masters. Excluding those that can be blended with the food and, therefore, they don't create difficulties, the liquid medicines are administered by lifting a lip of the dog and pouring slowly the liquid in the "bag" that is formed between the lip and the denture of the inferior jaw. The dog will swallowed the liquid immediately, even if it has bad flavor without trying to spit it out. The first times one should be able to request the help of a relative: one prepares the "bag" and the other one takes charge of the tablespoon. 

The habit to open the mouth of the dog by force to pour the liquid constitutes a dangerous mistake. With this system runs the risk of suffocating the dog and also (especially in the case of the puppies) you could cause a pneumonia that could have a fatal outcome. 

The pills are easier of administering. We can hide them inside a piece of meat p or bread, or to break them and mixing them with the food. 

We can also open the mouth of the dog and place them in the rear part of the tongue, maintaining him the mouth closed until it has swallowed it. Let us remember that the dogs are astute and frequently they fake to swallow the pill although in fact they maintain it hidden in the mouth, clever to spit her as soon as the master goes away. It is necessary to watch over them. 

The medicines in drops or powdered they are the simplest: they can mix with milk or broth.
