English Bulldog, king of Bulldogs
Chosen by the British as a national symbol due to its tenacious and stoical character, it was originally a combat dog aimed to entertain the public, fighting with bulls, in 1835, this breed lost its essence. Later on, thanks to the efforts of its breeders for sweetening up its character, it was appreciated as a companion dog.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The artificial selection that took place in order to get its romantic aspect has a negative repercussion on the health of this breed and the Bulldog is a good example. The difficult breathing of the current Bulldogs and the fact that so many females can give birth only through a surgery is shocking. This breed keeps its obstination and loyalty that made it very famous unaltered. As it always wants to get things done its own way, it is necessary to train it very carefully, but it will always be proud of its never ending loyalty.
