Dogs can also be nervous
The nervous system of a dog is, in general, is extremely sensitive and even fragile, but the dogs never get psychosis or similar mental illnesses that are developed by the man. However, a dog can be irritable or neurotic.
In general, the nervous dog gets upset when some unusual event perturbs it. He doesn't adapt to new situations, he hides when he hears any noise, in the street it is restless and it tries to bite things that move; for example, the motorcycles. But educating him and teaching him to obey, can attenuate their edginess almost totally.
It is easy that a vagabond dog is fearsome; he probably found many difficulties in their first months of his life. The conservation instinct helps him to get away from any thing that could harm him. The most common is the fear that is manifested before the noise of a shot, a thunder, a storm, the explosions of the artifice fires and of loud sounds, like the sirens or the megaphones, but he can also show fear when entering in an unknown and silent place, before a violent expression or the shouting of children that play.
The fear can be congenital, that is to say, fixed in its psyche from the birth or acquired later, like it frequently happens in the vagabond dogs.
In the first case, it will be difficult to remedy it, but in the second, if we are very patient, we can obtain excellent results.
For example the fears to the shots of a firearm, can be treated by asking a friend to shoot a salvo while one has the dog in arms, at the same time we caresses him and we give some tempting snack; more or less we will proceed the same way to habituate him to the loud noises that hurt their sensitive ears and their ultra sensitive nervous system.
But it will be necessary to take big cautions with the neurotic or traumatizes dogs (the street dogs frequently belong to these categories) they could get loose of the chain and escape panicky.
