Dog Supplies & Accessories

THE ENTIRE FURNISHING
Thousands of different accessories for dogs are being sold nowadays, dog supplies of all kinds are at your disposition, many of which are not only very expensive, but also unnecessary. You could get all the dog supplies in the world, but really, all you need a a good supply of the dog's basics. Now we are going to describe the basic furnishings for a dog:

  • Dog BRUSH
There are brushes with bristles, metallic bristles and even rubber bristles. There are combs with special rakes for dogs with long and abundant hair like the Golden Retriever, that catch a big quantity of dead hair, contributing in this way to keep the house clean during the molt. For some dog with very fine coat and skin like the Doberman, the best thing is to use special brushing mittens, which make the coat shine.
A good trick to choose the appropriate brush, especially when it is for a puppy, is to try it on your own hair. Many dog owners don't understand why their dogs are not very fond of brushing, but that is because they have never tried to vigorously brush their own scalp with a wire brush to make sure it is adequate.

  • Dog COMB
The metal combs are probably the most popular ones. There simple and double combs and some of them have rotary teeth.
  • Dog NAIL CLIPPERS
There are guillotine and nail clippers scissors . Use only the ones with security top, to avoid the risk of accidentally cutting in excess.
  • Dog Grooming Scissors
The most appropriate type of scissors will depend on your dog's breed. There are straight and curved scissors and also thinning out scissors.
  • Dog SHAMPOO
There are many varieties of special shampoo to choose from. They go from the anti-fleas insecticides to the herbalist ones. There are also conditioners for dogs. Don't use products for humans on your dog since the pH is inadequate for the dog's skin and hair.
  • Ear COTTON AND TISSUESThey are used to clean around the eyes, the inner part of the ears and the anal region. Use a new one for each eye or ear so you won't spread any possible infection.
  • Dog TOOTHBRUSH
There special toothbrushes for dogs, with very soft bristles and the tips in such an angle that will let you reach all the teeth. There are also finger brushes that allow you to reach all the corners of the mouth more easily, using your fingertips directly.
  • Dog TOOTHPASTE
It is very important to use toothpaste specially formulated for dogs. The flavor of human's toothpaste usually horrifies all dogs, but the toothpaste for canine teeth have more attractive flavors for dogs: natural, chicken and even liver.
  • TWO Dog Food BOWLS
Dogs need a feeder and a water bowl of exclusive use. There are ceramic, stainless steel and plastic bowls, all of them very useful and easy to clean.
  • Dog Collars & IDENTIFICATION PLATE
The collar must be comfortable and light, made of leather or nylon. The dog collars with chain or with parts on the shape of chains can get caught while the dog is walking, so it is normally better to use only the ones with flat buckle. There should always be an indemnificatory plate (made of metal or plastic) attached to the collar. The law states, in almost all countries, that the dog must have some sort of identification from its owner and in some cases this identification has to be indelible, either as a tattoo or as a chip (that consists on a very little microchip that is injected under the dog's skin). These two last alternatives have become common in the last few years.
  • Dog TOYS
A dog needs toys and things to play with. It is normally enough with toys your children are no longer using, balls and knotted socks to make them happy. The commercial toys can be fun for them, but you must check on their quality. Dogs love the toys that make noises when squeezed, but make sure they are made out of a very resistant material. The interactive toys (such as the ones that drop treats while playing, for example) exercise the dog's mind and muscles at the same time.
  • Dog Beds
There are many sizes, designs and prices to choose from: quilted, rigid, on a rug or sleeping bag shape... even when the dogs sleep very comfortably on a simple old, but very soft blanket.

A TOUCH OF LUXURY for your Dog

If you have a very elegant (large) dog, you may want to give something as luxurious and surprising as:

    • Fantasy collars and leads, with very modern designs and colors, to exchange every day of the week.
    • A fluorescent collar: you will never loose your dog in the dark again.
    • A picnic basket for dogs that keeps food warm for a long time and the water at the ideal temperature.
    • What about a dress, cap or slips? Some of these things can be kind of eccentric, but the diaper-slips in concrete will turn to be very useful when the female dog is in heat because they protect the seats and the carpets from stains, but they don't help in the well-looking of the dog.

    ·        A cat flap for dogs. As the ones for cats, but bigger, they let the dog in and out the garden.
