Dog RECUPERATION PERIODS
Ask for clear instructions, printed if possible, about the special cares you should bring your dog during the recuperation period. Read them carefully at home and don't hesitate to call the veterinary if there is something you don't understand.
General Cares
Make sure the dog is taking all the medicines prescribed. Get in touch with the veterinary if you don't know how to give them to your dog or you see if there are any side effects on the animal such as vomiting, for example.
Don't feed the dog until it is totally awake. Then give something easy to digest such as white meat or rice or whatever the veterinary has ordered. dog t shirt
Examine the bandaging periodically to make sure they are not too tight or they are bothering the dog. The bandaging should be normally removed a few days after or should be regularly changed. Let the veterinary know if you see any traces of pus or strange smells.
The wound at sight, is normal if it seems kind of swollen. You shouldn't worry either if you notice, at the beginning, some drops of blood. However, if you notice the wound redder, hotter or more swollen every time or if its bleeding more, inform the veterinary immediately .
Sometimes it is convenient to use a protection collar to keep the dog from licking and/or biting the wound.
If the surgery was serious, the dog can look weak and very mad during the whole recuperation period. However, if the surgery was not really serious, the animals should begin to cheer up 24 to 48 hours after. leather dog harness
The stitches should be normally removed more or less 10 days after surgery, but sometimes they should be kept longer. If they have used stitches under the skin, as is usual, then they don't need to be removed because they will be reabsorbed by the dog's body when the time is right.
Homeopathy And Medicinal Plants
Some natural remedies can make the convalescence period of your dog easier to handle, but they should never be used without asking the veterinary first:
The rescue medicine, a mixture of five flower essences (Bach's flowers) that are orally administrated during the post-operating period (not during the recuperation) to stimulate the healing and relieve the psychological impact of the surgery.
Right after surgery, and during a few days, you can provide homeopathic remedies with arnica, scale and staphisagria. The cream with calendula base is applied directly on the wound.
The casuelda (symphytum officinale), has been used for centuries to stimulate the healing. It can be applied directly as a cream, but then you will have to keep the dog from taking it out by licking the wound.
ATTENTION:
Do not use any medicine, even when it is a natural remedy, on your own; always ask for the veterinary's advice.
