CANINE K9 Dog CONTESTS

The human being is competitive by nature and it without a doubt began early to use its dog to compete with other dogs. Probably, the first practices consisted on hunting journeys or dogfights, instead of the current agility and obedience contests. The exhibition and canine beauty contests are the most resent types of competition, but also the most common nowadays. Dog Collars

TYPES OF CONTEST

Each Country celebrates different types of contest, but in general, all of them can be divided into two big groups: the recreational or friendly, in which it is possible to register the same day of the celebration and the official ones, which demand the anticipated registration of the contestants.

The purely recreational contests are usually part of the celebration program, or recreational activities of a local party. They usually include formal categories as "breed puppies" or "sport dogs" for example, and other as ludic and informal as "the most beautiful mixed dog" (breed-less dogs), "the dog that waves the tail the most" or "the dog the judges would like to take home with them the most at the end of the contest". In these type of contests, the judges don't look for the most representative animal of the each breed's standard, but well-educated animal, well-presented and well-cared by its owners. toy for large dog

On the contrary, the official or formal contest, do that, and consider even the most unnoticeable differences from the official standard of the breed (beauty canon), which could a reason for the disqualification. On them, the judges take a lot of time to examine the dogs in an exhaustive way, from their construction and movements to their physical shape and presentation.

DOG PREPARATION

The presentation is extremely important in both of them. No judge will look twice at a dog that has the hair, ears or nails improperly cared. Almost all of the Kennel Club establish strict normative that include, for example, the prohibition of the use of dye or make up, reason why the diet and the physical exercise are the only tool the owners have to make their dogs beautiful.

Certain breeds are required to present very concrete haircuts and grooming. The Poodle for example, should be presented properly groomed and with one of the few haircuts allowed for the breed. Many Terriers have to get thin outs in their coat in order to eliminate all the dead hair. If you want to present your dog to a contest, it wouldn't be a bad idea to ask for esthetic advice to a breed expert.

Only the perfectly healthy dogs are aloud to participate. First of all, because no sick dog should be subjected to the efforts and the stress of a contest and then, because the other dog's health can't be jeopardized by exposing them to possible contagion. The aggressive, nervous or insatiable dogs shouldn't be presented either.Dog Toys

Many dogs need some training before getting to a contest: they should learn to stand up and stay still when are told, to let themselves be touched by people they don't know and to go around the plate as in a parade for the judges to evaluate their movements, without stopping or going too fast. In fact, there are "preparation for the contest" courses, which are attended by the dog as well as the master. Besides that, these courses are a good chance to talk to other dog lovers and to get more information about each dog's breed in concrete.

The ludic-recreational contests are more informative than anything else, but the official contests are presided by numerous and strict charm rules. In all formal contests of any type, the judges demand the contestants to perform similar exercises in order to value the potential of every dog.
